For those of us that are missing more than one of our teeth, it’s important to consider options to restore your smile, not just to make it look better, but also to make it function as well. One of the ways to do this is a dental bridge, and it’s actually pretty interesting and great to have. If you don’t want to spend a ton of money on implants, this is something that is an option.
So, what is it? Well, a dental bridge in essence replaces a missing tooth with some arthritically teeth. In essence, it will literally “bridge” the gap that is caused by said missing teeth. The bridge is made of a replacement tooth or teeth and they’re in essence dental crowns. The dental crowns are attached to the teeth on each side of the gap.
So how does it help your teeth? Well, when you eat and speak with a dental bridge, it’s actually a lot easier. At first, it might seem foreign, but if you think about it, you can talk freely since it’ll replace the missing teeth. However, while you’re getting used to this, you should only have foods that are cut into small pieces, and don’t try to put too much pressure on them as well.
Now, if you’re someone that doesn’t speak clearly right now, a dental bridge will allow you to speak properly. This in turn will make your confidence skyrocket, since you’ll be able to speak properly and without problems.
So, what are the types of bridges? The first, is the traditional bridge, which in essence is a crown for the teeth on each side of the gap with the false tooth in between each of these. This is the most common one.
The cantilever bridge is used when there are only adjacent teeth on one side of the missing tooth or teeth, like for example in the area of molars. However, this isn’t commonly used anymore, but it is an option.
Then there is the Maryland bonded bridge, which is where replacement teeth and gums are supported by a framework that’s made of either porcelain or metal, where the wings are bonded onto each side of the existing teeth.
Typically, you can speak with your dentist about the one that best works for you to find the right dental bridge that will fit your needs.
With these, it’s a pretty simple procedure, and ultimately doesn’t hurt all that much. Essentially, how it goes is simple: the dentist will remove some of the enamel of the tooth on either side of where the gap is. This will allow for more room for the dental crowns, which will hold the bridge there. From there, the crowns are placed in each area, and from there, impressions will be made. You will then have the bridge, and the crowns solidified so that they are put in there rightly. Once that’s finished, it will then be cemented into place, so you don’t have to worry about it getting loose.
So, will this move? No, it won’t, but in terms of putting pressure on the area, it’s best if you don’t do so for a little while, since the spot might be a bit tender for a little bit. Take some time and get used to the bridge before you do anything with it, but you will begin to notice just how nice this is, and how easy it feels. With dental bridges, it makes it possible for those that want to have a smile that feels well, whole once again, to have that, and it makes it look way better.
If you’re considering getting something to replace teeth, dental bridges are ultimately the way to go. They do help you have a beautiful smile, and they’re more affordable than getting a full implant. This is one of the three major solutions for replacing missing teeth, and it’s one of the better ones that’s out there that can be used to help you, so definitely consider it if you want to change the overall look of your smile, and how you feel in life and how you compose yourself as well.
